Are you curious about surfing in Nicaragua, or already a devoted surf fan? Are you looking to experience good surfing in beautiful surroundings and on less crowded waves than in most popular surf spots? Then Rapture Surfcamp Nicaragua is the place for you! From the surf resort, you are only a 10-minute walk through a beautiful jungle path to Playa Maderas, which is known as one of the most consistent surfing locations in the country. The beach is situated on the Pacific coast of Central America, only 90 minutes from Managua Airport and 9 km north of San Juan del Sur – Nicaragua’s surfing capital and home to a number of great surf spots. Whether you are a beginner or have surfed your whole life, the area around the camp offer great surfing conditions and year-round swells. Playa Maderas offer both bigger waves and smooth beach breaks for our surf school, and there are a number of other great spots within easy reach from the camp.

Accommodation

Our surf camp is based in a spacious 2-level building, on top of a hill overlooking the jungle, Playa Maderas, and the Pacific ocean. At the surf resort, you can relax with a book in the common area, watch a great surf movie through the projector or chill in one of the loungers by the pool. What better place to check the surf than from the refreshing water of the infinity pool? The camp features comfortable beds, delicious food, spacious areas and beautiful showers as well as magnificent sunset views.

Surroundings

In the area around the camp, you will find a number of great surf spots. Always looking for the best conditions, we shuttle you every day to the spot that works best! From Maderas down to Playa Remanso, Playa Hermosa, Tamarindo, El Yankee and even Playa Escameca, offering you cheap surf lessons with our local surf instructors. For those who would like to experience the famous breaks in the north such as Playa Manzanillo, Colorado, Panga Drops and Santana, we offer daily boat trips leaving from our home beach.

A big reason why Nicaragua is becoming a top destination among surfers is that of the weather conditions and the consistency of waves. The area experiences 340 days of offshore winds, making it surfable every day of the year!
  • Flexible Surf Guiding Package
    Prices from: € 35 (pp)
    This package includes accommodation and guided surf tours which take place from Monday to Saturday. The surf spots we head to, are graded according to the various surf levels and selected depending on the tide, swell and wind conditions. If you don’t have any surfing experience yet, you can book our surf school for beginners as an extra.

Travel information

  • Nicaragua Visas

    Visitors from most countries can get a 90-day tourist visa on arrival in Nicaragua. At entry, you might be asked to show an onward or return ticket and pay a tourist tax of $10 US at the airport. Check your exact requirements before you travel.

  • Bringing your own surfboard

    You are allowed to bring 3 surfboards into Nicaragua for personal use. Additional boards will be considered as imports and customs will charge a fee – usually $100 US per board, but this is negotiable. In Nicaragua no wetsuit is required as the water temperature is warm all year round. You can bring your own surfboard or we can provide an appropriately sized board from the surfcamp. We cater to all standards of surfer from beginner to advanced.

  • Cordobas, foreign currencies and credit cards

    The local currency is the Nicaraguan Cordoba but US dollars are also accepted. The exchange rate varies from day to day. There are a lot of ATM’s around San Juan del Sur and any major city in the area, from most it’s possible to withdraw both Cordobas and US dollars. There are no ATMs in Playa Maderas.
